SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department arrested a man on Wednesday after he reportedly tried to ‘drive-stun’ officers with the use of an electronic device.

Police say incident began when they received a call of stolen vehicle Wednesday morning at 7:52 a.m.

According to a press release, officers responded to the area of 800 South 400 West to look for the stolen vehicle. A short time later, the vehicle was located near 980 South State Street with the suspect still inside.

Officers attempted to arrest the suspect. However, he was uncooperative and fled the scene.

According to police, the suspect pulled out a personal electronic device from his pocket and attempted to ‘drive-stun’ officers during a brief foot pursuit. However, the officers were safely able to take the suspect into custody. Police say that the suspect remained physically non-cooperative throughout their interactions.

No police officers were injured in the incident.

According to police, a ‘drive-stun’ occurs when an electrical device makes contact with an individual’s body. Once it makes contact with the body, it delivers a non-lethal amount of electrical shock to temporarily incapacitate a person.

Police say the stolen vehicle didn’t appear to be damaged and was returned to the owner.

The suspect, who has not provided his name to authorities, is being examined at a local hospital for minor injuries. The electronic device was collected as evidence, according to police.

Police say once the suspect is medically cleared, he will be booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail where he will be booked accordingly.
