SALT LAKE CITY — Chivas de Guadalajara and Santos Laguna, two of Mexico’s top soccer teams, will meet in a friendly match at Rio Tinto Stadium at 7:00 p.m. on June 15th. Both teams have won multiple championships through the years in Liga MX, Mexico’s top soccer league.

Real Salt Lake President John Kimball announced the Liga MX match on Monday morning.

“It is such an honor for us to have these clubs, these storied Liga MX clubs, come here to Utah,” Kimball told a news conference at Utah’s state capitol.

The match will continue a tradition of bringing top teams from Mexico to Utah.  The event will include a Fan Fest on the plaza outside the stadium beginning at 3:00 p.m.

“Last year, it seemed like the celebration started early in the morning and went late into the evening. We certainly invite that type of atmosphere,” Kimball said.

Utah State Senator Luz Escamilla is delighted to see Santos Laguna returning to Utah. They’re a team she and her family have followed and cheered on for years.

“Always really heartwarming to be able to welcome Santos Laguna to the state of Utah, and, of course, Chivas, which is a top tier team in Mexico,” Escamilla said.

The Utah Sports Commission facilitated the friendly match with help from Real Salt Lake.

Tickets go on sale Wednesday, May 4th at 10:00 a.m. at the Real Salt Lake box office and through the axs.com and ticketon.com websites.
