ST. GEORGE, Utah — St. George Police reported three children were struck by cars in at least three different incidents on Thursday.
As reported by the St. George News, police originally thought four juveniles were hit by vehicles but the number has since been reduced to three.
“You know what that concern brings for us,” said Officer Tiffany Mitchell of the St. George Police Department in a video message on Facebook.
According to St. George Police, the first incident happened at 100 South Bluff Street at 8 a.m. Two kids were trying to beat a light, and a juvenile on a bicycle was struck by a truck. The vehicle had stopped at the red light then proceeded to make a right-hand turn on the red light. The juveniles on the bicycles rode out in front of the vehicle.
One of the juveniles was able to avoid being hit, while the other suffered just a few scratches. Police say both were able to go on to school.
The second incident happened at 20 North Bluff Street at 4:40 p.m. Police say juveniles on a scooter thought the driver saw them.
The driver was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian. The children were checked out by medical personnel on scene and cleared to go home with their parents.
The third incident happened at the intersection of Tabernacle and St. George Blvd.
Mitchell says the children were in a walk crosswalk when they were struck. In a Facebook posting, she said the children in the third incident were being checked out by medical personnel on scene.
“We’ve just got to do better,” Mitchell said in her video message on Facebook. “Talk to your kids, also. Remind them that drivers are distracted. They’re busy, they’re in a hurry.”
