SALT LAKE CITY — During the pandemic, there were some protests around hospitals and clinics, which propelled the Salt Lake City Council to look at setting an ordinance limiting how protesters can protest at medical facilities.
The proposed ordinance would limit how close protesters can set up next to medical facilities when they are protesting. This ordinance will limit how close demonstrators can stand to medical facilities, like hospitals and medical clinics.
Protesters would have to keep at least 15 feet away from the entrances to these types of medical facilities. Demonstrators would also have to keep a minimum of 10 feet from patients. This is for patients who don’t want to speak with them. If protesters have amplified sound devices, such as megaphones or speakers, they would need to be at least 50 feet away.
The city council staff drafted this proposal because concerned citizens have complained about some of the demonstrations that happened during the pandemic, reports the Salt Lake Tribune.
The city council will take a vote on the ordinance on May 17.
