SALT LAKE CITY — If you are unsure of how long or when to water your lawn, the Utah Division of Natural Resources (DNR) has created a watering guide for every county in the state.

Lawn watering guide

The guide consists of four levels ranging from no irrigation to three irrigations. The current watering guide will run through Thursday, May 19. The guide will be updated each Friday on the Division’s website. In each county, it will tell homeowners how many days they should water their lawn.

With drought conditions continuing to impact the state, certain parts of Utah have implemented restrictions. DNR officials recommend residents to check with local providers to see what restrictions are in place.

The DNR also says to put off watering your lawn as long as possible. Or, until the temperatures are in the mid 70s for several consecutive days.

According to the DNR, 60% of residential water use is for watering lawns. The DNR also says by doing away with one watering can save roughly 3,000 gallons of water.
