You hear a lot about how unaffordable college is, but Utah *high school students* have an advantage when it comes to earning college credit: Weber State University. School President Dr. Brad Mortensen said the school has just under 30,000 students.

“A big chunk of those are high school students in their local high schools taking concurrent enrollment classes. For $5 a credit hour, it’s the best deal around,” said Mortensen.

He said Weber State is also extremely local: 75% of the students are from Davis and Weber counties, and 90% are Utahns.

Weber State University prides itself on being affordable. Mortensen is celebrating the school’s top-20 ranking on affordableschools.net.

“We take a lot of pride in having our programs be affordable, in having them really well-aligned to what workforce needs are,” said Mortensen.

Weber was also ranked No. 2 “best for vets” by Military Times. Mortensen said the school has  a large number of high school students paying $5 a credit hour for concurrent enrollment.

Weber State’s president said if you don’t think “sports” when you think about his school, you’re missing out. Mortensen tells KSL NewsRadio the Wildcats have a proud tradition when it comes to hoops.

“We just have had our basketball coach retire this week and have appointed his longtime associate head coach to take the reins and lead the program, and we’re excited for what the future holds for  Weber State men’s basketball,”

It’s not just basketball. Mortensen is headed to Seattle this weekend because the softball Wildcats are the only softball team in Utah headed to the NCAA tournament.
