SALT LAKE CITY — More than half of Utahns are watering too much, according to a study on water use from BYU.
The study made a comparison between people’s lawn health to their outdoor water bills. The results found that a lawn only looks better with more water to a certain point. Past that point, overwatering will not make your lawns look better.
“As water users apply more water to their landscape, landscapes get healthier, but only up to a point,” BYU Civil and Construction Engineering Professor Rob Sowby said.
Furthermore, Sowby recommends looking at weekly city water guides to find that optimal point.
“You can save a lot of water without sacrificing how your landscapes look,” said Sowby.
