SALT LAKE CITY — A speed enforcement operation recently conducted by the Salt Lake City Police Department on the streets leading in and out of the city resulted in 96 citations.

Speed enforcement operation
Salt Lake City Police stopped several drivers traveling 25 miles per hour above the posted speed limit. Many traffic stops included drivers racing against each other, police said.
In one instance, police stopped a driver going 98 miles per hour where the posted speed limit is 40. Police say the driver told them she was late for a job interview.
According to Salt Lake City Police, there have been 15 fatal traffic crashes thus far in 2022.
Salt Lake City Police say many of the crashes they have investigated have had some connection to speeding.
Traveling a fast rate of speed increases stopping distance, which can lead to serious injuries or death, depending on the impact of the crash.
