CENTERVILLE, Utah — A fire sparked late Sunday night in the Centerville Deuel Creek area causing the evacuations of 300 homes. The evacuation orders have since been lifted.
Coined the Deuel Creek Fire, it has spread to around 128 acres, according to Utah Fire Info.
Utah Fire Info said the fire started burning in the foothills before making its way toward homes. In addition to this, Sergeant Dave Boucher with Centerville Police Department said the fire was moving rapidly with the help of high winds.
Evacuations began around 1 a.m. on Monday, July 4. As many as 300 homes in the area were evacuated due to the blaze.
Two churches in the area took in residents, while authorities responded to the fire.
Centerville Police Department announced at around 6 a.m. Monday, the evacuation order was lifted and residents may return to their homes. According to the police department, the fire is believed to be human-caused, most likely by fireworks.
Centerville PD also announced that the Centerville City Parade and Freedom Run would be canceled due to the blaze.
According to Utah Fire Info, Additional resources to fight the fire have been ordered and will arrive throughout the day. A type three team will take over the blaze.
