Two people killed in two separate car crashes in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY — Two people are dead following a pair of separate car crashes Thursday in Salt Lake City.

According to Salt Lake City Police, the first incident was a rollover crash in the area of 4000 W. 2100 N.. It happened near the Salt Lake City International Airport at 1:59 p.m.

When emergency personnel arrived on the scene, they found the driver unconscious. They performed life-saving-procedures on the victim. Police say, however, the man passed away at the scene. There were no other occupants in the car.

In the early stages of the investigation, police say the driver lost control of the vehicle as he was traveling westbound on 2100 N.. According to police, the vehicle rolled several times after leaving the road and came to a stop a good distance from the road.

Police believe that speed was likely a factor in the crash. However, the investigation is still ongoing.

According to Salt Lake City Police, this is the 17th traffic-related fatality in the city so far this year.

The identity of the victim has not been released as the next of kin is still being notified.

Second fatal crash in Salt Lake City

The second of the two Salt Lake City car crashes Thursday was a collision between a moped and a car in the area of 400 E. 400 S. just after 4:30 p.m.

The driver of the moped passed away at the scene after being hit by a car as the moped was trying to turn onto the road. The driver of the car was not injured and is cooperating with the police in the investigation. 

The identity of the victim has not been released as the family is still being notified.
