SALT LAKE CITY — The Board for the Salt Lake City School District didn’t provide any reason Tuesday night why Superintendent Timothy Gadson was placed on administrative leave in July.
“Before we move ahead with our agenda tonight, the board would like to share a brief update regarding our superintendent,” Melissa Ford, president of the Salt Lake City Board of Education in a news release. “We have heard from so many of you, and we are grateful that you share our concern for the well-being of our schools, our employees, and, most importantly, our students. We know you have questions, and while we do not have a resolution tonight, as a Board, we feel it is important to share as much as possible while respecting the rights and dignity of all our employees and also following our Board Statement of Ethics.”
Janetta Williams, president of the Salt Lake City Branch of the NAACP, spoke during the public comments portion of the meeting.
“This situation with the Salt Lake School Board and District is extremely disturbing. What is happening with the Salt Lake City School Board is clearly racism,” she said in a news release.
Leading up to Tuesday’s meeting, Board member Mohamed Baayd and former State Senator James Evans were asking the residents to come and support Gadson.
