SALT LAKE CITY — The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Monday the names of two temples to be built in the near future.

Two future temples

In April, President Russell M. Nelson announced a temple would be built in Birmingham, England. The church announced Monday temple will be known as the Birmingham England Temple. It will be the third temple in Great Britain.

In October 2021, President Nelson announced a second temple would be built near Rexburg, Idaho. This temple will be known as the Teton River Idaho Temple. Currently, Idaho has seven operating temples and two others that are announced.

According to church statistics, there are a little more than 470,000 church members in 1,213 congregations in Idaho.

Temple rededicated

President Nelson was in the nation’s capital on Sunday to rededicate the Washington D.C. Temple.

Sunday’s rededication capped a four-year renovation on the temple that was first completed in 1974.

According to a church news release, there are currently 167 temples in operation, and additional 51 under construction.
