SPRINGDALE, Utah — The body of Jetal Agnihotri was found on Monday in the Virgin River near the Court of the Patriarchs in Zion National Park. The Court of the Patriarchs is about 6 river miles south of the Narrows.

A medical examiner later declared that Agnihotri was dead.

“Our deepest sympathy goes out to the friends and family of Jetal Agnihotri,” Jeff Bradybaugh, Zion National Park superintendent said.

The park confirmed that the hiker was missing on August 19, and that a search of areas of the Virgin River had begun.

The search for the missing hiker lasted four days and was conducted by more than 170 responders according to Zion National Park officials. These rescuers included swift-water-trained rescuers and search dogs.

Weather was a continuing issue during the search period, as monsoon rain added to the flow in the Virgin River, increasing it to more than 1,100 cubic feet per second the Park reported.
