HERRIMAN, Utah — A woman killed in an auto-pedestrian accident on the Mountain View Corridor early Wednesday morning has been identified.
Herriman City Police said that 38-year-old Stephanie Whittaker of Herriman was walking southbound on the east sidewalk of Mountain View Corridor. She had been out jogging, according to police, on a route that was common for her to take.
Police said that the driver of a black pickup truck, an adult male, hit Whittaker while turning right from westbound Real Vista to northbound Mountain View.
An off-duty Heber City police officer was reportedly one of the first people on the scene. First responders from the Unified Fire Authority arrived soon after but were not able to revive Whittaker. She died on the scene.
Herriman police said the driver of the black truck remained at the scene of the accident. He has reportedly been cooperative with police.
Visibility at the time of the crash is being investigated as a factor. Police say there is no indication that impairment or speed were contributing factors.
The fatal crash on Wednesday is the ninth such crash in the same vicinity in the past six months according to Herriman police. However, this is the first fatal crash.
“This is not unusual for an intersection along Mountain View Corridor,” said Herriman City Police Public Information Officer Josh Jennings, in a press release.
Jennings told KSL NewsRadio that the intersection of Mountain View Corridor and Real Vista Drive has been included in the Herriman City capital projects plan and that a traffic signal is expected to be installed in 2025.
