Family of beavers is the latest attraction in Logan Canyon

LOGAN, Ut — Along with all of the outdoor activities that draw people to Logan Canyon, there are some celebrities, of sorts, bringing in the crowds this summer. It’s a family of beavers that have made a home at Temple Fork River, in Logan Canyon.

Nate Norman from The Beaver Ecology and Relocation Center told KSL NewsRadio that he is happy that people have come to see the animals in their natural environment. He said the beavers have gotten used to the people that put out blankets and chairs to watch them nightly. And even with the audience, the beaver family just goes about their normal activities.

“They put on quite a show, chewing on sticks, and slapping their tails!” Norman laughed. 

There have been a few instances of people throwing rocks near the beavers and hollering at the animals. Norman said it worried them a little that the beavers might get nervous and not want to come out again.

But, they have.  And in the meantime, the amphibious rodents are offering an educational opportunity to those who come to watch them. He said that the animals are showing people “that Beavers are cool and not a nuisance.”

Part of the job for those on The Beaver Ecology and Relocation team is to help prevent beavers from becoming a nuisance. Norman and his team help beavers that are potentially causing trouble, either to roads or other things, by relocating them to a better place for everyone, including the animals.

“Its a win, win for everyone,” he said. It helps keep roadways safe and the beavers alive.
