Layton police report two attempted child abductions

LAYTON, Utah — Police in Layton said that two child abduction attempts were made within the past week. In each instance, an adult approached a child and asked them to get into the adult’s car.

In both instances, Layton police said the children were alone.

It happened the first time on South Kimball Drive on Wednesday, Sept. 7. Police said that a young boy who was walking his dog was approached by an older white male at around 4:00 p.m. Police said the man asked the child to get into his car, and the boy ran away.  This car is described as a black SUV, possibly a Jeep Cherokee with an LA Dodgers sticker in the right corner of the rear window. The case number for this incident is 22-23349.

Layton police said another abduction attempt happened today, Friday, Sept. 9 on North Church Street. In this instance, a 20- to 30-year-old Hispanic or Black man approached a young girl who was taking out the trash. This man waved for the child to get into his car, police said, but she ran back inside the home. He was last seen driving a car like a Crown Victoria on Church Street from 2400 North. The case number for this incident is 22-23508
