One year since the passing of Utah football player Aaron Lowe

SALT LAKE CITY — A year ago today, University of Utah defensive back Aaron Lowe was fatally shot in a Sugar House neighborhood following a house party. He was 21 years old and beginning his sophomore year at the U of U.

According to a police report from the Salt Lake City Police Department, at around 12:20 a.m. on Sept. 26, 2021, SLCPD 9-1-1 got a call that quickly escalated into a life or death situation. Upon arrival, Aaron Lowe and a second victim were located. The second victim survived, but Lowe passed away as a result of his gunshot wounds. SLCPD says during the autopsy, four bullets were recovered from his body.

An article from KSL notes that Lowe’s death followed about a year after Utah lost its star running back Ty Jordan to a self-inflicted accidental shooting in Texas.

Lowe was high school teammates with Jordan and switched his jersey number from No. 2 to No. 22 in his memory.
