ST. GEORGE, Utah — This weekend a marathon runner will attempt a Guinness World Record in the name of dyslexia awareness.
Partnered with Reading for Life Southern Utah, Hannah Holt, an avid runner and award-winning children’s book author will run the 26 miles dressed as a book. One of her books “A History of Underwear” will be her costume and she plans to cross the finish line in five hours.
Her costume and expected finish time will help her win the record as ‘the fastest female marathon runner dressed as a book.’
One in five readers is affected by dyslexia according to the Dyslexia Center of Utah. Holt said she feels there is a lack of information and resources available for the condition.
According to a press release she was led to Reading for Life Southern Utah as they are an official charity of the St. George Marathon that focuses on developing resources for dyslexic readers in southern Utah.
“At first, running a marathon in a costume seemed like a fun idea,” Holt said in the press release. ” The more I think about it and prepare for it, the more I realize it’s probably going to be pretty miserable. Even so, anything that helps bring more awareness to dyslexia is worth it.”
The St. George Marathon takes place October 1 and begins at 7 a.m.
