ROY, Utah — Police in Roy say a 5-year-old was transported by ambulance to McKay Dee Hospital, and then by LifeFlight in critical condition to Primary Children’s Hospital on Wednesday night.

The child was critically injured after he was hit by a truck.

Police say the accident happened in the area of 2600 W. 4400 South at 6:02 p.m. Law enforcement personnel say the boy was riding his bike when he was hit by a truck pulling a trailer.

A GoFundMe* account has been created to help with medical bills and lost wages for the child’s family.

The driver of the truck, an adult male, remained on scene and was cooperative according to police.

Witnesses said that the driver stopped at a stop sign prior to turning left onto 2675 West and that he was proceeding with caution. According to witnesses, the driver had seen another child on a bike that had already crossed the street. That the child who was hit was smaller and riding a low-profile balance bike.

Combined with the driver’s elevated position in a large pickup truck, police said the driver did not see the child in the road.

Additionally, police say their initial investigation has found no evidence of speeding or impairment on the part of the driver.

An investigation continues.
