Groundbreaking ceremony for Heber Valley, Utah Temple

HEBER, Utah — Ground was broken Saturday for the Heber Valley Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Presiding over the ceremony was Church President Russell M. Nelson.

The site for the temple is southeast of 1400 East Center Street in Heber City, Utah. 

President Nelson announced plans for the Heber Valley Utah Temple in October 2021 said the church communication department.

The new temple will stand three stories tall and be approximately 88,000 square feet.  

The original landowner, on which the temple will be built, was George Holmes, Sr. Holmes was the child of immigrant parents and a WWII veteran who bought the land with his wife, Clara, in 1946. 

“For years, [George Sr.] had dreamt of building a forever home with his beloved Clara,” President Nelson said. “In a very real way, his dream will be realized.”

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints now has 300 temples in operation and under construction
