SLCPD SWAT responds to burglary and domestic violence incident

SALT LAKE CITY — Police responding to a call for shots fired led to a SWAT investigation early Saturday morning.
As a result of the investigation, officers learned that two men showed up at an apartment and tried to kick in the door.
One of the residents inside fought back. During the fight, one of the men had shot through an apartment window. The shot did not injure anyone.
During the investigation, an officer saw one of the suspects exit an apartment before going right back inside. Police communicated with the man, asking him to safely exit the apartment. At 4 a.m., roughly 30 minutes into the investigation, the 31-year-old man came out and surrendered. He was taken into police custody and treated for injuries sustained in the fight.
At 7:19 a.m., the SLCPD SWAT Team finished searching the apartment unit but did not find the second suspect.
Officers later learned that the 31-year-old and the victim are related to each other. Police believe there is an ongoing domestic violence related argument between the involved parties.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
