SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints broke ground Saturday on the Williamette Valley Oregon Temple.
It will be the third temple in the state of Oregon. The other two temples in the state are located in Medford and Portland.
Elder Valeri V. Cordón, a General Authority Seventy and first counselor in the North America West Area Presidency presided at the event, according to a church news release.

“We acknowledge the first saints who came to this valley to live peacefully in their humble circumstances,” said Elder Cordón in a news release. “We are grateful for the faithful saints who live in this area for their sacrifice, devotion and obedience.”
According to the news release, the temple is scheduled to be built on 10.5 acres of land in the city of Springfield, which is a suburb of Eugene. The single-story structure will be roughly 30,000 square feet.
The temple was announced in April 2021 by President Russell M. Nelson.
