SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Gov. Spencer Cox nominated Aaron Flater on Monday to the Third District Juvenile Court.

Flater will be filling a vacancy with the retirement of Judge Renee M. Jimenez. It is required that all judicial nominations be confirmed by the Utah Senate.

“Aaron is a skilled attorney who will serve Utah’s families and youth well,” Cox said in a news release. “I am thankful he is willing to take on this new responsibility and know he will work hard to better our communities.”

Flater is currently serving as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Utah. During his time in law, Flater has investigated large criminal operations. Additionally, he has worked as a narcotics coordinator. He has also trained agents at the federal, state and local levels.

Flater earned a bachelor’s degree from Utah State University. He also received a Juris doctorate from the University of Missouri, Columbia School of Law.

“It is a tremendous honor to be appointed to serve children and families as a Juvenile Court Judge,” Flater said in a news release. “If I am confirmed, I commit to serving with compassion and empathy.”
