OGDEN, Utah — The Ogden School District will provide no-cost meals for all of its students.
Previously, the district had planned to provide lunches for select schools for the fall. Now all schools in the district will receive free lunches for the remainder of the school year.
According to a press release, some students already qualify for free school lunches. For those who don’t, The Child Nutrition Department used State Reimbursement funding to cover their costs.
Although the next school year’s lunches aren’t promised, funding will continue to be reevaluated in hopes to provide more no-cost meals.
For the Ogden School District, this is a big development. Prior to this announcement, only eight schools were receiving free lunches.
Those schools included Bonneville Elementary, Heritage Elementary, Hillcrest Elementary, James Madison Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Odyssey Elementary, Mound Fort Jr. High and George Washington High School.
From eight to 18, nearly 10,500 students in the district will get free lunch and in some cases, breakfast.
