SALT LAKE CITY — For much of Wednesday, a snowstorm moving through northern Utah made it look a lot like winter along the Wasatch Front.

KSL Meteorologist Matt Johnson said it isn’t just the mountains where there will be accumulations of snow.

“So far, I’m seeing reports of a half inch to an inch, which is kind of fun,” he said. “But I think the valley locations toward the I-15 corridor will do a trace to a half maybe an inch, if we get things going. And that’s on grassy and elevated surfaces.”

Johnson said the snowstorm is going to help the state’s water needs.

“This is really good for our summer water supply,” he said. “. . . It’s more of the heavier water-logged snow that does huge things for us with our water supply.”

While the storm will die down sometime Wednesday night, colder temperatures will stick around. Another storm is making its way to Utah that should arrive sometime over the weekend, Johnson said.

“It looks potentially just as strong, so that’s kind of fun,” he said.

According to the National Weather Service, most valleys were expected to see anywhere between 2 to 6 inches of snow. The benches and mountains could see 6 to 12 inches of snow with the possibility of up to 18 inches of snow accumulation.
