SAN JUAN COUNTY, Utah — The U.S. Department of Justice will be monitoring polling stations in 24 states on Tuesday, including Utah.

San Juan County is one of the counties listed where the DOJ will concentrate its monitoring efforts. The purpose of the monitoring is to ensure that the federal voting rights law is followed. The DOJ says this has been done regularly all over the United State since the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

That piece of legislation made it illegal to discriminate against anyone, making it impossible for them to vote.

San Juan County was previously monitored by the DOJ in 2018.

Previously, there have been complaints from Navajo Nation regarding issues such as translation and home addresses.
