SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City Police have provided more information about an officer-involved critical incident that closed 900 East in Salt Lake City on Tuesday.

Detective Peterson provides an update on the investigation.

According to Detective Michelle Peterson with SLCPD, police were called to assist its mobile crisis outreach team in the area of 900 South and 1700 East. 

“During the encounter, a man was shot,” Peterson said, and then lifesaving measures were given to the man. He was transported to a hospital, and by Tuesday afternoon remained in critical but stable condition.

Two officers of the SLCPD have been placed on administrative leave, and the officer-involved critical incident protocol has been activated according to Peterson.

Police originally tweeted that 900 East was closed between 1700 S and Wilson Avenue. By Tuesday afternoon, the road remained closed and Peterson said that traffic in the area would be impacted “for quite some time, several hours.”

KSL NewsRadio previously reported that a second scene, at 140 East 1700 South, may have been associated with the officer-involved critical incident. But that was not the case, the two incidents were not related.
