Davis School District projected to receive bonds, but votes are close

DAVIS COUNTY, Utah — In an expectedly close race, Davis County voters seem poised to approve a school bond. 

If approved, the bond would grant the Davis School District $475 million for improvements to outdated buildings and for two new schools in the northwestern part of the county.

As of Wednesday morning, some 52,969 Davis County voters had approved the issuance of bonds, while 41,044 did not. 

The tallies represent 56% of voters saying yes and 44% of voters saying no to the issue.

KSL NewsRadio previously reported that the district claims it won’t cause increased tax rates in the county. However, the plan does depend on rising property values, new businesses, and new homes to keep broadening the tax base.

Because of Utah’s heavy reliance on mail-in ballots, counting could continue into late next week.
