PERRY, Utah — Perry City police are investigating a Saturday break-in at a meeting house for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Police say the break-in took place sometime Saturday between 1:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. They believe multiple individuals got in through an unlocked window.
Damage to the meeting house is extensive, according to Chris Southwick the first counselor in the Perry Utah Stake Presidency.
“One of the things that we’ve noticed in there is dust that’s on the carpets and in the flooring,” he said. “It looks to be as if it was from fire extinguishers that were set off.”
Southwick said the vandals left behind a lot of broken glass and overturned the piano.
Church members have already begun cleaning up the damages.
“These people are here to clean everything up,” Southwick said. “They’re in there with masks because of the dust and the things that [are], kind of, all over in the building.”
Meetings were canceled Sunday due to the vandalism.
