SALT LAKE CITY — If you see smoke in the mountains today, it may not be a threatening burn. The Mountain View Ranger District is working on piles of controlled burns. 

On Eastern Roughneck, near Burnt Beaver, hundreds of controlled burn piles are up in flames as of yesterday.

Piles of brush, dead trees and other natural kindling are on fire today for the purpose of forest management and prairie restoration. 

At least four areas of Utah are currently undergoing “prescribed burns”. These burns are spreading across hundreds of acres in Utah’s mountains. 

Before reporting a wildfire, Utah Fire Info has a map of prescribed burn sites in the Beehive State. 

Smoke and fire may be visible in the surrounding areas according to Utah Fire.
