SUNDANCE, Utah — Sundance Mountain Resort is opening one week ahead of schedule.

The resort announced via email this morning that it expects to open on Dec. 3 because of all the snow it’s gotten, instead of its planned Dec. 9 opening. Sundance says it’s the earliest opening day they’ve had in a decade.

“We are so grateful Mother Nature provided us with early snow and cold temperatures,” said Chad Linebaugh, the resort’s president and general manager, in a press release. “Thanks to the incredible work of our snowmaking and mountain operations teams, and new snowmaking system, we have an impressive base of snow. We are thrilled to open early and are excited for what will be an epic winter season!”

Sundance will officially open at 9 a.m. on Dec. 3 on Outlaw Express from the midway station, Jake’s lift and the beginner area will also be open. The resort continues to make some snow for other runs. Night skiing will begin on Dec. 17.

Most of the ski resorts around the Wasatch Front have already opened, with a few still remaining. Those resorts credited all the early snow they’ve gotten as well.
