MIDWAY, Utah — Construction has begun on the Midway ice castles. Each castle is crafted one icicle at a time, according to a press release.
Tens of thousands of people visit Ice Castles at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center each winter, according to the press release.
Ice artists have begun growing, harvesting and hand-placing icicles to build each castle.
According to the press release, artists grow up to 10,000 icicles per day. These icicles are then fused together and sprayed with water until the castles reach around 20 feet in height.
Along with the frosty ice castles, Ice Castles at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center features ice slides, horse-drawn sleigh rides and carved ice sculptures.
This winter, the center is introducing “whimsical” winter characters to greet guests, according to the press release.
The park is hoping to open late December or early January. Tickets go on sale Monday, Nov. 28.
