SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City Police continue their investigation into an auto-pedestrian crash that killed an 11-year-old girl on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said a Nissan truck hit the child in a marked crosswalk at 2100 East 1300 South in Salt Lake City.

As officers arrived on scene, they learned that bystanders had started life-saving measures on the victim, including CPR. Other first responders arrived, and the victim was transported to a local hospital.

The victim was transported in critical condition and died later at a hospital. On Thursday morning, police revealed the age of the victim. At least for now they are not releasing the child’s name.

According to a press release from SLCPD, the preliminary investigation shows the driver of the Nissan was turning from 1300 South to 2100 East when they struck the pedestrian.

The release also said the driver stopped and remained on the scene. Other first responders included a Crash Analysis Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians.

SLCPD’s victim advocates, social workers and the department’s Peer Support and Wellness Team are offering full assistance.
