Utah Tech student dies after falling from fifth-story balcony

SAINT GEORGE, Utah — A Utah Tech University student is dead after falling from a fifth-story balcony early Sunday morning.

A statement from UTU identifies the student as Peyton Hall, a freshman at the university.

According to the university, Hall fell from a fifth-story balcony at Campus View Suites II. This happened at approximately 2:30 a.m.

The statement says Hall was with several roommates and friends who witnessed the fall and immediately called 911.

The Utah Tech Police Department, St. George Police Department and ambulance medical services all responded to the scene. Despite the university police officer and medical services performing lifesaving measures, Hall was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death appears to be accidental, according to the university. Though an investigation is ongoing.

In the statement, the university says Peyton was an “involved and loved student.”

“Our sincere condolences go out to his family, friends and loved ones during this tragic time,” the statement reads.

According to the statement, university officials are working with the Southwest Behavioral Health Center mobile crisis team to provide mental health support to students and others involved.

UTU reports university mental health professionals are available at Campus View Suites II from Dec. 4 to Dec. 5 to provide support on location and to continue to monitor the situation.

Students may go to the Campus View Suites II front desk to schedule a time to meet with a mental health professional. Along with this, anyone can dial 988 for immediate mental health support.
