LOGAN,  Utah — Police at Utah State University are warning students about a phone scam that involves a caller impersonating a police officer and demanding personal information.

The scammers claimed there was an outstanding warrant against them according to students.

In a statement from USU, multiple students notified the police, saying that they were getting calls from the number.

Additionally, students also reported the suspects had foreign accents, spoke in broken English, and were very aggressive.

There have been similar situations statewide. Victims are easily duped because, in this phone scam, they are using the actual police dispatch number.

The police stated that in using the police number or a local number, the suspects, who seem to be overseas, are hard to track.

USU police reminded students that they would never threaten arrest or ask for financial information over the phone.
