SALT LAKE CITY – The Big O Doughnut shop has announced its permanently closing its doors on Jan. 15, 2023.

Famous for gourmet vegan doughnuts, the shop has become a staple to many in Salt Lake City.

Owner and manager, Ally Curzon said the problem was that costs got too high.

“It’s already a hard sell at the profit margin that we previously needed to be at and now with the new price of ingredients the math just doesn’t add up,” Curzon said.

The shop said with all the rising costs, It would need to charge $10 a doughnut to keep its doors open.

A staple for almost the last 9 years, Curzon said she’ll miss the community.

“I just really appreciate everybody’s support, the staff does as well,” she said. “It’s been amazing a lot of ups a lot of downs.”

Catering to those with strict diets, allergies, or those that like a good doughnut, The Big O Doughnut shop has become a special treat to many people.

“The recipes in some way will live on. Whether that happens to be another business wants to come in and buy the recipes or if we self-publish it, we do want that to continue,” Curzon said.

The shop said it’s planning a larger event closer to its last day. Stay up to date on The Big O Doughnut Shop through its Instagram page.
