Kaysville Firefighter arrested on charges of enticing a minor

KAYSVILLE, Utah — An employee of the Kaysville Fire Department has been arrested on suspicion of enticing a minor and other related child pornography charges. 

Andrew Leonard, 29, is a firefighter for Kaysville City and is from Roy.

Mayor Tamara Tran said in a statement that Roy Police arrested Leonard at the Fire Station on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

“Kaysville Fire Department has terminated his employment with the city. Any allegation of a crime against children must be taken seriously. Such allegations are extremely rare, and when one occurs, we take immediate action,” said Tran.

According to court documents, law enforcement posed as a 13-year-old girl on a social media platform.

Leonard reached out to the account on Jan. 7 and asked for the girls’ age. The officer said 13 years old.

Then, Leonard lied about his age, responding with 20 years old. That said, later in the conversation, he admitted his real age.

According to documents Leonard sent nude photos to the girl persona, asking for some in return. Telling her,” You can do it 🙂 be brave.”

Leonard sent sexual texts to the persona and ones concerning the age difference. He mentioned going to jail due to the age difference as well. 

The officer persona sent a message that said, “if you don’t wanna be talking I can stop bothering you and leave you alone.”

Leonard replied, “you’re not bothering me at all!” And continued to ask questions sexual in nature.

The court documents said Leonard had this conversation at his place of employment.

He faces felony charges of enticing a minor and dealing with materials harmful to a minor. Also, documents request he is held without bail.
