SALT LAKE CITY — An overnight brought snow to Utah’s mountains and more is yet to come. So, keep your snow boots and shovels handy.

Monday morning’s rain and snow showers are only round one of three storms.

KSL Meteorologist Matt Johnson said the overnight storm was perfect for our snowpack.

“We picked up 1 to 2 feet in the mountains. Some areas pushing 30 inches — obviously at the top of the Cottonwoods. That spread all the way down through central Utah. Southern Utah picked up lesser amounts, 6 to 12 [inches].”

Storm number two swoops in Monday afternoon for the drive home starting as rain and turning over to snow by Tuesday morning.

The second storm is expected to bring another 12 inches of powder to the mountains — which already received a foot Sunday night.

Johnson said the storm will bring lots of cold air but less water.

“It’ll be more of that dry, powdery, popular Utah snow that we claim to be the ‘greatest on Earth.’ We’ll get more of that moving forward with this different pattern change.”

Then on Thursday, storm number three blows through with more snow. But, the storm is expected to move through the state very quickly.
