SALT LAKE CITY – SLCPD arrested 42-year-old Jose Leon Johnson after being called out to an associated car near 400 North Pamela Way.
Johnson is a restricted person, meaning he cant possess a firearm, and had several active arrest warrants.
When officers first approached Johnson, he drove off in his vehicle. Shortly after, one of the Pioneer Bike Squad officers saw Johnson driving south on Interstate 215.
Officers followed the vehicle into South Salt Lake and conducted a felony traffic stop. After getting out of his car, Johnson tried to run away from officers but ultimately surrendered.
Right before being taken into custody, Johnson admitted to possessing a firearm and laid it on the ground for police. The officers safely recovered the gun and collected it as evidence.
Johnson was booked into Salt Lake County Metro Jail on numerous felony and misdemeanor charges, including being a Restricted Person in Possession of a Firearm.
