SALT LAKE CITY — A new bill making its way through the Utah House would close all of Utah’s abortion clinics beginning in 2024.

Rep. Karianne Lisonbee, R-Clearfield is the sponsor of H.B. 467,  which would also prevent any new clinics from being licensed beginning May 2, 2023.

Right now, Utah’s abortion ban is facing legal challenges and is currently on hold. Nevertheless, it does contain some exceptions for rape and incest. H.B.467 would revoke that exception for pregnancies over 18 weeks.

And abortions that fit the exceptions could only be performed at a hospital, except in the case of a medical emergency.  Further, the bill clarifies what constitutes a medical emergency.

The bill is scheduled to be considered by the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday afternoon at 4 pm.
