SALT LAKE CITY– The leader of Utah’s Olympic Committee says Utah leaders and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee are “convinced” the games are coming back to Utah.

“All of our meetings were very positive with the USOPC and with political leadership,” said Fraser Bullock, president and CEO of the Utah Olympic Committee. “Everybody wants the games back…it was a great success.”

Bullock was among those who met with the USOPC on Thursday, at the same time a bill to give lawmakers more oversight into the bid process was advanced in the Utah Legislature.

“I think it’s great transparency and continues our strong relationship with (lawmakers),” Bullock said.

The bill would give lawmakers updates every six months and would allow them to review the host agreement before the governor signs it. That bill is now on its way to the governor’s desk.

Bullock said he expects to hear a decision on the 2030 or 2034 games by next summer when Paris hosts the games.

He said hosting the NBA All-Star Game only helped our case.

“Hitting it out of the park, which I believe Utah did…it once again instills confidence to bring major events to Utah,” Bullock said.
