SALT LAKE CITY — You can find hundreds of spots for Utah snow activities when a good storm hits.  But while skiers anxiously wait for the latest winter storm to arrive in Utah this week, not everybody is as excited to see more white stuff floating down from the sky.

And nobody enjoys working or driving in tough conditions and don’t get me started with the shoveling!

In place of the normal conversations surrounding why these types of storms are good for drought and filling our lakes and reservoirs for Summer, instead, here is a meme that popped up on social media not long ago.

It said, “Go Laugh in the Places You have Cried. Change the Narrative.”

So let’s try to do that since some are suffering from a bit of Cabin Fever.

Let’s start by admitting that skiing is not for everyone. The physical demand and pressure on the pocketbook can be prohibitive although in the weeks ahead we will look at ways to overcome that as well.

Utah snow activities: Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing is both an inexpensive and enjoyable way of getting outside for some fresh air and healthy vitamin D on sunny days from mother nature and there are plenty of trails close to home in Ogden Canyon, Little Cottonwood Canyon, Millcreek Canyon and Park City. You can even rent the snowshoes from retail shops like Canyon Sports or area resorts like Solitude.

Ice Skating also fun indoors or in the snow

Ice Skating is a great way to create some winter memories with both indoor and outdoor opportunities and fun for the whole family! Gallivan Center downtown is one way of getting you out of the cabin and changing the narrative. Of course you can always just head to the “fastest ice on earth” at the Oval in Kearns too!

Tubing is one of kids’ favorite Utah snow activities

One of the classic Utah snow activities is Tubing! You can get started with an old truck tire innertube and a side hill big enough to get some speed but small enough for mom and dad to climb multiple times to reset the screams and laughter!! Of course tubes and sleds these days come in all shapes and sizes and some at crazy price points.

However a place where you not only get the fun of the downhill without the strains of the reset uphill, Woodward Park up Parleys Canyon!

Day or night riding on over 1200 feet of track on seven lanes and the best part is mom and dad can join in the fun and ride back up for another run.

Mid-winter blues are real in peoples lives and February seems to be when those feelings manifest themselves. But with what is statistically the snowiest month of March still ahead it’s important to find some ways to smile and embrace one of the reasons we live in our beautiful state and change the narrative!
