Plane crash near Stagecoach, Nevada left five dead

SALT LAKE CITY — Five people died in a recent plane crash Friday, February 24, near Stagecoach, Nevada.  

Authorities in Lyon County, Nevada which encompasses Stagecoach received call after call about a possible aircraft crash around 9:15 p.m. on Friday. Lyon and Douglas county’s first responders located the crashed plane 2 hours later.

Care Flight, a service of REMSA Health headquartered in Reno, Nevada, and Guardian Flight, in Utah, confirmed that the plane that crashed near Stagecoach, Nevada belonged to them and there were no survivors.

“The five people on board were a pilot, a flight nurse, a flight paramedic, a patient, and a patient’s family member. We are in the process of notifying their family members” the companies said in a release. 

“Our immediate focus is helping our team members and families, as well as the responding agencies,” said the company.

All flights by Care Flight and Guardian Flight are on hold per protocol. It is unclear when they will presume.

The crash occurred during a winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service in Reno and large parts of Nevada, including parts of Lyon County.

The Central Lyon Fire Department and Lyon County Sheriff’s Department are investigating with the National Transportation Safety Board. The investigation will determine what caused the crash but at the moment, the cause is unclear.
