SALT LAKE CITY — A drizzling winter morning became dangerous for a bicyclist and several drivers in traffic on Wednesday morning.

Sgt. Melody Cutler with Unified Police told KSL that, around 7:30 a.m., both a truck driver and the cyclist were traveling in the northbound lanes of 500 West when both of them turned right onto 3900 South.

“As [the cyclist] got going eastbound on 3900 South, for some reason he turned, went right in front of the truck, and hit the side of a car,” Cutler said.

“[This] launched him into the air, causing some severe head injuries. Cutler said they were able to see exactly what happened thanks to nearby surveillance video.

The drivers of the truck and vehicle are cooperating with police, Cutler said, and neither driver was injured.

The eastbound lanes of 3900 South at 500 West were closed while police investigated the bicyclist crash during morning traffic.  The investigation consisted of the Unified Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team
