SALT LAKE — To facilitate Elk Relocation, I-80 will be closed around 10 a.m. today between 13-East in Salt Lake City and the I-215 West Bound Ramp in Parleys Canyon, along with several other ramps including North Bound 215 at 2900 South.

UDOT is urging semi-drivers to use 189 or I-84.

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources “DWR” plans to create a human chain of 20 DWR employees to coax around 80 elk off a Salt Lake City golf course, across the highway, and into the mountains. The hope is that the closure will last only an hour.

Scott Root, Public Relations and Outreach Manager at the Utah DWR said, “elk are gonna go where they want to go but we hope we can just make this happen quickly because we realize these very busy and important roads cannot be shut down for very long”

Utah DWR is asking everyone to stay away in effort to not spook the elk.
