SALT LAKE CITY — A New York City grand jury heard from the last witnesses Monday in the investigation of former President Donald Trump.

The investigation into President Trump is centered around him allegedly giving hush money paid to a woman during his 2016 campaign. The former president has recently claimed that he will be arrested Tuesday. And as such, he has called on his supporters to protest.

Robert Sherman, NewsNational national correspondent, joined Dave and Dujanovic with hosts Dave Noriega and Debbie Dujanovic on Monday to discuss the latest developments surrounding the former president.

The impending arrest of former President Trump

Dujanovic asks Sherman, “What do you know about this grand jury and how this all ties into what President Trump has put out on social media about his impending arrest?”

“Where we are right now is that this is likely gonna be the last day of testimony before this grand jury,” Sherman said.

Sherman says the last person to testify before the grand jury is an individual named Robert Costello.

“Who is meant to come in and discredit the prosecution’s star witness,” Sherman said.

That star witness, according to Sherman, is Michael Cohen, a former lawyer for President Trump. Sherman says it is Cohen who allegedly paid $130,000 in hush money to Stormy Daniels.

Will an arrest take place?

Whether the former president will be arrested on Tuesday, Sherman is uncertain if that will actually take place.

“We do not know with certainty if that’s going to be the case,” he said. “His attorneys have not confirmed that. The District Attorney’s Office is remaining quiet.”

Sherman says if the former president was indicted, he’d be treated like anybody else. He says President Trump would be brought in for finger printing, DNA swab and a mug shot. He says there would likely be no prep walk or handcuffs.

“The Secret Service will probably take issue with that,” Sherman said.

Sherman says a former president can’t just be in the custody of local law enforcement. He says the Secret Service will be there every step in the process.

“It is a very surreal and unreal situation, potentially playing out,” Sherman said.

Dave & Dujanovic can be heard on weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon.
