SPRINGDALE, Utah — National Park Services at Zion National Park are working to repair road damage after rockfalls on Zion Canyon Scenic Drive and Kolob Canyons Road.

According to a press release, these rockfalls are not the only events this winter that led to damage on park roads. They are only the most recent of “similar but smaller” events.

According to the press release, only one lane near the work area on Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is open.

Crews are working to asses methods of road repair. Along with this, they are repairing a sewer cover and vertical pipe that connects to the sewer line.

Additionally, with the help of an unspecified utility company, crews worked to repair electrical lines buried beneath the roadway. According to the press release, this disrupted electrical service to Zion Lodge on March 21 and 22.

The press release reports the Zion Canyon Shuttle System is still operating, but may temporarily close and delay shuttles while repairs are happening.
