ALTA, Utah — The Alta Town Marshal issued an interlodge order Monday evening for people at the ski resort because of the storm.

The Alta Town Marshal, Mike Morey told Debbie Dujanovi that he swore-in the entire ski patrol as special deputies with the power to enforce orders and issue citations if needed. The order is to keep people inside due to avalanche dangers.

“Interlodge is a local ordinance that gives the marshal’s office the ability to prohibit all outdoor travel due to avalanche hazard or avalanche mitigation activities. It’s a very serious situation when we have to go into interlodge in town, it does mean that there is an avalanche hazard affecting the town belt and highway 210,” said Morey.

Monday afternoon, Morey swore-in his entire ski patrol as temporary deputies.

“And given the gravity of this storm, we’ve exercised something else that our ordinance allows us to do, which is to deputize people on a temporary basis to help us with the enforcement of interlodge,” Morey said.

“…You know, probably the best people I can think of, to work with us in snow safety situations.”

Morey said there are several people in town, including lodging guests, resort employees, lodge employees and the public safety and Utah Department of Transportation staff.

The order is expected to be in place through Wednesday as the resort has gotten 27″ in the past 24 hours.
