Granite Police seek help identifying suspect in attempted kidnapping

SALT LAKE CITY — Granite Police are searching for a male suspect who attempted to kidnap an elementary student on Thursday. 

According to police, around 3:50 p.m., a third-grade student at Whittier Elementary was grabbed by a male suspect. The suspect appeared to be an older juvenile. 

The suspect reportedly dragged the victim around the corner of the building and a physical struggle ensued. The girl fought her attacker and screamed for help which alerted an employee. The suspect fled the area on foot. 

Granite School District Police and West Valley City Police are investigating this matter. 

Authorities describe the suspect as a  juvenile but noted that he may be in his early 20s. He is described as weighing 150-160 pounds, is 5’9″ – 5’11” in height. The suspect was wearing a black beanie, a blue and gray sweatshirt, and gray pants at the time of the incident.
