PIUTE COUNTY, Utah — A four-day school week is coming to one of Utah’s smallest school districts.

Piute County’s three schools are moving to a four-day school week this fall. The Utah State Board of Education approved the request last week.

Despite being down a whole school day, the county believes attendance rates will increase. The county states Friday is the least attended day of the week because of athletic competitions.

According to the application request form, the goal is to give students more time to schedule activities important to their development, like working part time or work based learning on family owned land.

A survey conducted by the school district showed parents think the change will positively impact their family schedule and influence a positive attitude from their children.
